Your data should work for you.

North uses a small amount of information to operate the site, understand what's useful and make what you see more relevant to you.

We don't want collecting data to become the product.

WHAT NORTH COLLECTS

When you use North, we may record information about how you interact with the site. This can include things such as articles you open, things you Keep, recommendations you respond to and preferences you give us.

North also uses a visitor identifier so that these interactions can work between pages and visits.

If you create an account or sign in, your account information is handled through our authentication provider. Your previous North activity may be associated with your account so that your experience can continue when you're signed in.

PERSONALISATION

North uses your interactions to help decide what might be interesting to show you next.

For example, Keeping an article or asking for more like it can influence future recommendations. Telling us something isn't for you can do the opposite.

The aim is to make North more relevant without simply trapping you inside what you already like. Discovery is part of the point.

ANALYTICS

We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to understand basic information about use of the site, such as visits, popular pages and how people reach North.

We also record some interactions within North so that features such as personalisation work and so we can understand whether the product is useful.

COOKIES AND BROWSER STORAGE

North uses cookies and browser storage where needed to operate features such as visitor identity, sign-in, saved interactions and application state.

Authentication is provided by Clerk, which may also use cookies or browser storage necessary to provide its service.

THIRD-PARTY SERVICES

North currently relies on services including Cloudflare for hosting, infrastructure and analytics, and Clerk for authentication.

When you follow a link from North to another website, that website operates under its own privacy practices.

HOW WE USE INFORMATION

We use information collected through North to:

• operate and secure the service;
• remember your interactions;
• personalise what North shows you;
• understand how the service is being used; and
• improve North.

We do not sell your personal information.

YOUR CHOICES

You can use much of North without creating an account.

Where North provides controls such as Keep, More Like This or Not For Me, you can use those controls to influence your experience.
